CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. – North Carolina is getting a new water park with a 110-foot slide, a wave pool, a lazy river and more.

The park is planned to open in the summer of 2017 just north of the Wright Memorial Bridge in lower Currituck County, according to multiple reports.

PilotOnline.com reported that the $45 million Outer Banks project is expected to attract 4,500 people a day during tourist season.

More than two acres of the proposed 80-acre park will be used for a children’s adventure area. A FlowRider surfing attraction is also planned.

OBX Waterpark Adventure LLC is the company in charge of the park’s development, according to WTKR.

“The Outer Banks vacation area has such a rich history with room to grow the recreational leisure market, says Kenneth Ellis, co-owner of OBX Waterpark Adventure LLC. “The first-class water park development will be a major draw for visiting families and will allow the Outer Banks to benefit economically from a $45 million project and in turn creating incremental tourism dollars.”

Construction on the attraction is scheduled to begin in September.
