CORNELIUS, N.C. — A recently-opened Lake Norman beach was closed Friday morning after a No Swimming advisory was released, WSOC reports.

Mecklenburg County officials issued the warning after water samples detected elevated levels of fecal coliform. Officials said the advisory is standard procedure for potential health risks in designated recreational water and the closure of the area was necessary.

The beach was first opened to the public over Memorial Day weekend.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will continue to gather samples until the water returns to safe levels, and will withdraw the ban on swimming at such a time.
