GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes warned the public Friday about a phone scam that is targeting Guilford County residents.

Many citizens have reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be an officer with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office who tells the resident they missed a jury duty summons.

Once engaging the citizen in conversation, the impersonator demands the citizen pay a fine or fee to avoid arrest.

An investigation was conducted on the phone numbers used and it appears to be an international scam that is not traceable.

Sheriff Barnes recommends any citizen receiving these calls to hang up and not provide any money or personal information to this impersonator.

Anyone with information or questions can call the Sheriff’s Office at (336) 641-3690.
