ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- Rockingham County is hosting a Youth Hunting and Safety Day on Aug 6.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, at 527 Longbranch Road in Reidsville.

Activities will include shotgun shooting, archery range, deer stand safety, turkey calling instruction, habitat and food plots and fishing rod practice.

Craig Travis, chairman of the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners, told FOX8, "We're 'pro' being responsible gun owners and hunting enthusiasts. But it's very important to be safe and it's very important that as your children grow up in your area, to teach them the dangers and safety aspects of having guns and going hunting."

The event is free. They ask potential attendees to register so organizers can get a head count.
