Inmate escapes from NC correctional center

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Officials are searching for an inmate who escaped from the New Hanover Correctional Center Wednesday morning.

34-year-old inmate Stephen Singleton was reported missing after officials believe he scaled the fenceline to escape, WECT reports.

He was in jail for habitual misdemeanor assault and larceny and set to be released in January 2018.
