Meredith McIver, an in-house staff writer and family friend of the Trump Organization, released a letter explaining how Melania Trump’s speech mirrored parts of the speech given by Michelle Obama in 2008.

“A person she [Melania Trump] always liked is Michelle Obama,” McIver explained. “Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech.”

She also said that she offered her resignation letter to Donald Trump, but he rejected it.

“Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences.”
