BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington Mayor Ian Baltutis has gotten in on the new game that is seemingly taking over the world.

On Monday morning, Baltutis posted photos to his Facebook page of himself playing the Pokémon GO game around Burlington.

“After hearing about the new ‪#‎PokemonGO‬ app I figured as Mayor it was important to learn how it might impact Burlington,” Baltutis wrote on Facebook. “To my surprise and delight I found hundreds of kids and parents wandering our downtown and city park playing this new augmented reality game and enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend.”

The Pokémon GO game has exploded since it launched in the past week or so. It has almost as many daily active users as Twitter.

Among players, it’s being used for an average of 43 minutes, 23 seconds a day — that’s higher than Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook Messenger.
