GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro police are searching for a man they said broke into a home early Friday morning and then fired shots at officers as he ran away.

It happened around 2:20 a.m. on the 2200 block of Pisgah Church Road. Four people were inside the home -- a mother, her two sons, and one of their friends.

"That person could've shot and killed us," said the mother, who did not wish to give her name. "It could've been so much different."

She said her sons heard the suspect break into the home, and one of her sons called 911 while she and her other son attempted to fight the suspect.

"Please come right now," the 911 caller said. "We're being robbed right now. Please come right now. They just broke in. Come now, I can't talk."

The mother said as the suspect ran out the back door, he fired shots at police. Police said they did not return fire. None of the officers were hit.

"He shot at police!" the mother said. "That's scary. That means that's an individual who doesn't care. A dangerous person. That's what makes me think like, afterwards, what he could've done to us."

Friday morning, police used K-9s to try to track the suspect inside Jaycee and Country Park, but were unsuccessful.
