CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. – A North Carolina woman’s dying wish to visit Carolina Beach one last time has been granted.

WECT reported that Ellie Duckett was granted the wish Friday afternoon as she was surrounded by friends, family and well-wishers. She was even able to get her feet wet.

Duckett retired to Wilmington a dozen years ago and first battled cancer 20 years ago.

“That’s not who I am,” she said of her cancer. “When I look in the mirror, I’m not Ellie Duckett, cancer patient. I’m Ellie Duckett, pain in the butt, or whatever to my family and friends.”

Duckett’s wish was granted with the help of Lower Cape Fear Hospice in partnership with Sentimental Journey and New Hanover EMS.
