ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A crash site that closed a portion of I-85 north near the Julian Road exit in Rowan County early Tuesday morning has cleared, according to the State Highway Patrol and N.C. Department of Transportation crews on the scene.

State Highway Patrol informed NCDOT that the deadly 3-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer occurred just after 5 a.m. The portion of the roadway was completely closed following the crash until around 11 a.m. when one lane was opened. The crash site completely cleared at about 3:15 p.m.

NCDOT said in a news release it is also taking this time to remind the traveling public of the Move Over Law.

Under the “Move Over” law, motorists are required to move over one lane, if possible, or reduce speed for stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder of the highway, including public service vehicles with amber lights. Violating the law could result in a $500 fine.
