YOUNGSVILLE, N.C. – An Amber Alert for a 1-year-old North Carolina girl who was kidnapped by her father has been cancelled after the child was found safe.

WTVD reported that 24-year-old Devon Anthony Whaley is accused of shooting the child’s mother at an apartment in Youngsville and kidnapping the girl.

An Amber Alert was issued for Desaree Hopkins, but the child has since been found and is safe.

Whaley has also been found and taken into custody, according to officials. He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder.

The suspect is the child’s father and he had dated the mother, according to WTVD. The mother was taken to WakeMed for treatment and is in intensive care.

Police confirmed that the mother had an active domestic violence order against Whaley.
