Authorities confirm Randolph County deputy was shot by father

TRINITY, N.C. -- A Randolph County sheriff's deputy was shot by his father over the weekend, according to Randolph County Sheriff Robert Graves.

The shooting was first reported Saturday night.

First responders found Deputy Tyler Cook with a gunshot wound to the abdomen in Trinity around 6:30 p.m.

At last check, Cook was in stable condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Graves said the deputy's father, Gary Cook, has been questioned, but not arrested. The sheriff plans to meet with the District Attorney and Deputy Cook to discuss charges.
