HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection with Thursday night’s deadly hit-and-run in High Point.

Leon Lanear Knowles IV, 41, is in custody, according to Lt. Jay Yandle with the High Point Police Department.

High Point Police responded to Johnson Street and Eastchester Drive just before 11 p.m. in reference to a pedestrian struck.

The pedestrian was walking south on Johnson Street when he was hit by a crossover-type vehicle while crossing Eastchester Drive, according to Yandle.

The pedestrian was initially taken to High Point Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Yandle said the victim was then transferred to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he later died.

Police said parts of the car, including fragments of a headlight, were left in the intersection.

Yandle added that charges against Knowles are pending.
