SBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Reidsville

REIDSVILLE, N.C. — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Reidsville.

A Reidsville police officer responded to Bettie’s Mini Mart & Grill, located at 221 Graves St., at 12:40 a.m. Friday.

The unnamed officer reported seeing a suspect leaving the property and running with his hand on his waistline. The officer then fired two shots at the suspect, according to Major Ellison. No bullet fragments were recovered from the scene.

Reidsville police say the suspect ran from the scene and it is unclear whether he was hit.

The officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative duties while the SBI investigates the incident.

According to Ellison, the 5-year officer has not been involved in any other shooting incidents during his time on the force.
