GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro police are investigating an overnight shooting turned homicide.

Officers were called to the 3300 block of Beck Street at 12:56 a.m. Thursday in reference to a shooting.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Capt. Mike Richey with the Greensboro Police Department.

Police found multiple shell casings on the ground outside the apartment where the shooting happened.

Richey said investigators now believe the victim was targeted.

The victim was in the living room of the apartment when a shot was fired through the window, according to Richey.

Police had already stepped up patrols in this area after other recent violent crimes. Now, they plan to increase their presence here even more.

No suspect information has been released at this time.

A homicide happened on this same block in December of 2015.
