CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers have announced their 2016 schedule.

The 2016 season will begin the same way the 2015 season ended — with the Panthers squaring off against the Denver Broncos.

The Panthers will take on the Broncos in Denver on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The matchup will mark the first time in NFL history that the first game of the season has featured the teams that faced each other in the Super Bowl the previous season, the Panthers said on their website.

“It’s exciting for our players to compete on a national stage,” head coach Ron Rivera said. “We have earned the right to be in the spotlight, and we have to take advantage of it. Every season presents challenges, and we are excited to get back to work.”

The Panthers’ first home game takes place on Sunday, Sept. 18, against the San Francisco 49ers.
