ODESSA, Texas -- Police in Texas are looking for a suspect who was caught on camera stealing a ring Friday afternoon from a deceased woman lying in an open casket.

Surveillance footage obtained by KOSA shows an unidentified woman reaching into 88-year-old Louis Hicks' casket and taking her ring.

The suspect reportedly tore off part of Hicks' skin while trying to remove the jewelry, according to the Odessa American.

“I can’t believe someone would be that low," said Vel McKee, Hicks' daughter.

McKee said she and other family members had left Sunset Funeral Home just before a woman walked looking for a restroom. Instead of going to the restroom, that same woman ended up by Hicks' casket.

"It makes me sick to my stomach,” McKee told the Odessa American. “Horrible. I hope they catch her.”

The Odessa Police Department posted a video of the thief to its Facebook page Monday. The suspect is described as a heavy-set woman wearing a brown long-sleeved sweater, black sweat pants and black sandals.

Billie Vallie, the manager of the funeral home, said the surveillance footage also captured several shots of the suspect's car and license plate.

So far, police have not arrested any suspects in the case.
