RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina woman has been charged under a new state law that prohibits “revenge porn.”

WRAL reported that Ashley Augustine, 20, of Apex, has been charged with disclosure of private parts and was released on a $3,000 bond.

The suspect is accused of posting the photo without the victim’s permission. She allegedly posted a photo of another woman having sex “with the intent to harass, demean or humiliate her.”

The General Assembly passed the “revenge porn” law last summer. It took effect in December.

The law bans someone for sharing nude photos or videos without the victim’s consent. It came after a number of reports of former significant others who post the images for revenge. The new law now makes it a felony for adults and repeat offenders underage.
