LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina woman is accused of abusing her 14-month-old child.

Mary Ann Carter, 43, of Stanley, is charged with felony child abuse with serious injury.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received reports on March 15 from the Department of Social Services about an injury to a 14-month-old boy’s leg, WBTV reports. An X-ray revealed a fractured tibia.

During the investigation, detectives found bruises and head injuries on the child.

At Levine’s Children Center in Charlotte, doctors discovered the child had a fractured skull and brain bleed, LCSO officials told WBTV.

The child was released from the hospital and put in the care of foster parents.

Carter was placed in the Harven A Crouse Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
