North Carolina beats Syracuse, advances to NCAA national championship game

HOUSTON — The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will face Villanova in the NCAA basketball final after the Tar Heels defeated Syracuse.

The North Carolina Tar Heels beat the Syracuse Orange in a 83-66 victory Saturday night in Houston.

North Carolina has already defeated Syracuse twice this season, winning 84-73 at Syracuse on January 9 and 75-70 at home on February 29.

The Tar Heels had been favored to win the game Saturday night as the lone No. 1 seed left in the tournament.

The No. 2 seed Villanova Wildcats defeated No. 2 seed Oklahoma Sooners 95-51 to advance to the NCAA men’s basketball national championship game.

The national championship game is Monday night.
