Pedestrian killed in Winston-Salem hit-and-run

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning in Winston-Salem.

Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department were dispatched to 308 E. Sprague St. at 12:10 a.m. in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle.

The victim was found lying in the front yard of that address, suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries.

Emergency personnel took the victim, who was later identified as 68-year-old Jackie Wayne Cross, to Baptist Medical Center for treatment. Cross died around 3:30 a.m. as a result of his injuries.

An investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle hit the Cross in the front yard, went back onto the road and left the scene before officers arrived.
