DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A father was killed and his three children were injured in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 85 South in Davidson County Sunday.

The Lexington-Dispatch reported that 42-year-old Antonio Deonte Stewart and his three sons were traveling south along I-85 in heavy rain when the wreck happened around 7:16 p.m. near Lake Road.

Authorities said they believe the father lost control of his 2008 Nissan passenger vehicle before hydroplaning and hitting a Lake Road bridge pillar.

Stewart and his sons were all taken to Thomasville Medical Center where the father died. The children were then sent to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Stewart’s 12 and 13-year-old sons are in stable condition. The 17-year-old is still in the intensive care unit.

One of the children told emergency personnel that the family was on the way home to Charlotte when the crash happened.
