Former Charlotte mayor to face voter fraud charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon is due back in Charlotte Wednesday, but his visit may not last long.

Cannon’s attorney, James Ferguson, said he expects a state charge of voter fraud filed against Cannon will be resolved at a hearing scheduled for noon.

It will be Cannon’s first time back in Charlotte since he reported to a federal prison in West Virginia in November of 2014. He was sentenced to 44 months in prison after pleading guilty to taking $50,000 in bribes while in office.
