TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- A 7-year-old border collie in Michigan has gained Internet fame because of his job at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City.

According to FOX17, Piper started working at the airport in January 2015.

His job is to clear the runway by chasing geese, ducks, owls and other birds off of it.

The Internet started referring to Piper as "the coolest dog ever" after a photo of him wearing goggles in front of a Coast Guard helicopter went viral.

Brian Edwards, the airport operations supervisor, adopted Piper in 2012 and has since started chronicling the dog's work at the airport on an Instagram account.

Piper often likes to randomly stop and enter deep thought. Eyes closed, he breaths deep and just listens. Here he is on a perfectly still winter's morn during a taxiway inspection. I know I'm slightly biased, but there's something special about this guy. PS - The stuff you see on the ground is masonry sand. We use tons and tons every year to increase friction. # #airportk9 #airport #k9 #k9team #k9storm #spikesk9fund #aviation #sunrise #daybreak #deepthoughts #bordercollie #bordercolliesofinstagram #proudbordercollies #dog #dogsoffreedom #dogsofinstagram #workingdog #workingdogsofig #traversecity #puremichigan #Michigan #puremittigan #awesomemitten #michiganawesome @puremittigan @puremichigan @awesomemitten @michiganders @proudbordercollies
