Garbage truck collides with school bus in Winston-Salem, leaves the scene

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A garbage truck collided with a school bus Friday morning in Winston-Salem, according to police.

Winston-Salem police said Bus No. 53 was traveling east on Oak Summit Road at 6:15 a.m. when a garbage truck traveling west collided with it, breaking the bus mirror.

The garbage truck continued driving, leaving the scene.

Officers are still trying to determine whether the driver of the garbage truck knew he or she was involved in a crash.

Two passengers were on the bus at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.

Officials say the school bus was headed to Hanes Magnet School at the time of the crash.
