At least four injured in crash on westbound Business I-40 in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — At least four people were injured in a crash involving multiple vehicles on the westbound lanes of U.S. 421/Business Interstate 40 at Reidsville Road in Winston-Salem on Friday afternoon.

The wreck happened at about 2 p.m. and involved at least three vehicles including a tractor-trailer, according to Forsyth County emergency responders.

Four ambulances took at least four people to the hospital. Their names and the extent of the injuries were not immediately available.

Two westbound lanes of U.S. 421/Business I-40 at Reidsville Road have reopened.

Police said as of about 4 p.m. that traffic in this area, both directions between the Kernersville City Limits and U. S. 52, was extremely heavy and gridlocked.

The Winston-Salem Police Department encourages people to avoid driving through this area until about 6 p.m. tonight.
