GREENSBORO, N.C. – Marty Kotis has a new vision and a new name for the six-acre lot that sits along the 1300 block of Battleground Avenue just a few minutes away from downtown.
It’s an area Kotis has coined as “Midtown.”
“It’s just so that people from outside the area can easily understand where we are,” said the developer and CEO of Kotis Holdings.
By the end of the year or start of 2017, Kotis hopes to begin construction on the $50 million dollar project.
The plan is to build nearly 50,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and office space surrounding the existing Red Cinemas movie theater.
“Some fun restaurants with rooftop terraces and great venues and views and some retail shops,” Kotis said.
Kotis says he wants to build something in Greensboro that has a big-city feel.
“In Greensboro, you don’t see much mid-rise development,” he said. “So this would be a big change to this midtown area and give you more of that downtown feel outside of downtown.”
City councilman Justin Outling hopes the project, if built, would attract more young professionals.
“Midtown is likely to attract young professional who want to live work and play in really cool, distinctive places,” Outling said.
The plans will likely go before the city for approval this fall.
Kotis says it could take up to 10 years to complete the project.
