‘All clear’ issued after lockdown at Winston-Salem State University

UPDATE — An all clear has been issued after a lockdown at Winston-Salem State University.

Original story 

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem State University was placed on lockdown Monday night after someone displayed a gun on campus, according to university spokesperson Aaron Singleton.

Singleton said at 9:35 p.m., an altercation in the Donald Julian Reaves Student Activities Center resulted in someone displaying a gun.

A lockdown was put in place at 9:37 p.m., Singleton said.

A RamALERT was sent out that read:

RamALERT: WSSU campus is currently on lockdown. Secure inside a room until further advised. Do not come to campus if currently off campus until advised.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, Singleton said.

The university will remain on lockdown until sweeps are completed by police.

It is unclear if a suspect is in custody.

Winston-Salem police assisted campus police during the lockdown.
