Powerball jackpot: The most common numbers drawn
With the Powerball jackpot soaring into the billions, seemingly everyone is going Powerball crazy.
As of Tuesday, the jackpot has reached a staggering $1.5 billion. The cash value on the jackpot is currently $930 million.
The next drawing will be Wednesday night at 11 p.m. ET.
But before you start planning your retirement, should you consider which numbers are drawn most often?
According to lottery tracking website Lotto Numbers, here’s the list of the main numbers (white balls) that have come up most often in the history of the game:
- 26 (drawn 266 times)
- 41 (drawn 255 times)
- 16 (drawn 255 times)
- 22 (drawn 254 times)
- 42 (drawn 253 times)
As for the Powerball (the red ball), the most common numbers are:
- 20 (drawn 75 times)
- 6 (drawn 74 times)
- 29 (drawn 72 times)
- 2 (drawn 69 times)
- 18 (drawn 68 times)
Editor’s note: The game was changed in 2015 to include more white balls, increasing the number of balls from 59 to 69 and decreasing the number of Powerballs from 35 to 26.
That’s not to say your odds are any worse if you just select a Quick Pick. Powerball lottery officials tell the Atlanta Journal-Constitution three-fourths of those who won Powerball jackpots did so with a Quick Pick ticket.
As for how you decide to pick your numbers, no matter what you do the odds are still heavily against you. The chance you buy a Powerball ticket that hits all the numbers is 1 in 292 million.
