Hundreds of pigs onboard truck that overturned on I-40 in Raleigh.

Update: The News & Observer reports that only 15 percent of the pigs survived.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police tell WNCN that 2,600 piglets are onboard a truck that overturned on Interstate 40 westbound.

Some of the pigs are seriously injured, WNCN reported.

Crews are working to free the pigs and turn the truck back upright.

Animal control is on scene working with nets to catch loose piglets. Some pigs can be seen wandering around, WNCN reported.

The crash closed two lanes of I-40 west between South Saunders Street and Lake Wheeler Road.
