WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was arrested Sunday after police say he tried to kidnap a 5-year-old girl.

Calvin Fluitt, Jr., of 3816 Sawyer Street, was charged with first-degree kidnapping.

Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded to a kidnapping call at New Hope Lane and Cleveland Avenue just before 6 p.m.

The victim’s mother told police that Fluitt had her 5-year-old daughter in his black 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. Eventually, she was able to remove the child and call police.

Officers later arrested Fluitt on Prospect Drive.

Fluitt is being held on a $200,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2016.
