Person killed in head-on collision on NC 68 in Guilford County

OAK RIDGE, N.C. — A person was killed in a head-on collision on N.C. 68 Monday afternoon, according to Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Knox.

The accident happened on N.C. 68 near the intersection with N.C. 150 in Oak Ridge, Knox said.

Highway Patrol was called to the scene at 2:25 p.m.

According to Knox, an SUV and a tractor-trailer collided head-on. The person in the SUV was killed. Their identity is not being released until next of kin is notified.

A saddle tank on the tractor-trailer came apart and caused a diesel spill, Knox said.

N.C. 68 was closed for almost four hours while crews cleared the scene and cleaned up the diesel spill.

The road reopened at 6:43 p.m., according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
