GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Children with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont are getting a big treat this weekend.

Twelve to 14 middle school students are getting the five-star treatment at the Harbison Estate at Sedgefield.

"It gives us an opportunity to give back to the community and do something for kids,” Doug Harbison, a member of Harbison Estate LLC, said.

This is the first event of its kind at the estate for Christmas.

The children will have dinner with Santa -- which includes a chef prepared meal and wait staff.

However, the children do not know there is a surprise.

"We got a Christmas list from the kids and we'll be getting everything on the list and more,” Harbison said.

The parents were asked to submit a “wish list” to Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members.

"They are not coming here expecting gifts. They know that they are having dinner with Santa so I think that's truly going to be a surprise for them,” Krista Johnston, vice president of development and partnerships at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont, said.

The day will be about more than gifts.

The organization wants the children to be inspired by what they see.

"We are serving kids that are facing adversity, so most of them are living in poverty and this is going to be something that they've only probably seen on TV,” Johnston said.

To Johnston, it was especially important for the males in the group to see what a long-time successful businessman has been able to achieve.

The Harbison Estate at Sedgefield will host the children from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The public can also participate in “dinner with Santa” events through mid-December.
