Name that road: Nominations being taken for new Business 40 name

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Business what? That could be the reaction someday when a stranger asks how to get to Business 40, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The renovations to the downtown freeway won’t just eliminate a stretch of overcrowded on- and off-ramps. It will eliminate the name Business 40 altogether.

But that’s OK: The N.C. Department of Transportation is giving people a chance to nominate a new name for the highway that will apply once the road is finished.

“We have 150 responses so far,” said Jumetta Posey, the chief executive of Neighborhood Solutions, a private company working with the state on garnering public involvement with the road-building effort. “We have gotten more than I would have thought, and we have just started the school outreach.”
