GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- Several Guilford County schools were placed on lockdown early Wednesday afternoon while authorities searched for a Ragsdale High School student who was reportedly seen with a gun.
Col. Randy Powers with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said the student in question has been located and taken into custody, as well as the gun.
All lockdowns were lifted shortly before 1 p.m.
Powers said the incident started when a school resource officer was notified by students that the student was trying to sell a gun on campus.
The gun was a Lorcin .380 caliber pistol, according to the sheriff's office. Powers said the clip was loaded with bullets, but it was not chambered to be fired.
At this point, Powers said he does not know where the student got the gun.
Ragsdale High School, Millis Road Elementary, Christine Joyner-Green Education Center, Jamestown Middle and Haynes-Inman Education Center were placed on lockdown Wednesday.
