North Carolina high school football player breaks neck during game

RALEIGH, N.C. – A high school football player in North Carolina broke his neck during a game and will undergo surgery.

WRAL reported that Jordan High School football player Brandon Massey was injured Friday in Raleigh during a game against Cardinal Gibbons High School.

It happened as Massey went to make a tackle in the fourth quarter. He went down to the ground and didn’t move for several minutes, according to witnesses.

Massey is a sophomore linebacker for the Falcons and wears the No. 23 jersey, according to reports. He’s the son of Shaw University’s head football coach Robert Massey.

The game on Friday was called with nearly 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, according to WRAL.
