GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A Greensboro man is facing felony charges after deputies say he shot and killed a dog.

The incident happened Tuesday on Lewey Drive. Deputies say 22-year-old Prophet Xavier Robinson shot his roommate’s dog.

Deputies say Robinson gave investigators several different explanations for why he shot the animal.

However, neighbors say there is no excuse for animal cruelty.

“I am very heartbroken because I have a German Shepherd. It's just awful. It just breaks my heart because animals are defenseless,” said Robin Beal. “There's no excuse. I want him to be punished to the max.”

Robinson has been charged with felony cruelty to animals as well as drug charges. He has been released from the Guilford County Jail.
