WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — A man in Florida survived a horrific crash that split his vehicle in half Tuesday evening.

Carlos Pino, 20, of Winter Haven, Fla., was driving west along Cypress Gardens Blvd. just before 7 p.m. when he lost control of his silver 1986 Nissan 300ZX.

Pino’s vehicle skidded sideways, struck a curb and left the roadway, according to the Winter Haven Police Department’s Facebook page.

The driver’s side front wheel and quarter panel then hit a tree.

According to police, the impact of the crash caused Pino’s vehicle to split in two with the engine compartment on one side of the tree and the vehicle’s cab on the other side.

Pino was wearing his seatbelt and was airlifted to a local hospital.

Police said the wet roadway was a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
