SALISBURY, N.C. — A shooting Thursday night near Salisbury High School forced the cancellation of a football game involving a Davidson County high school.

A spokeswoman for the Davidson County Schools confirmed that the junior varsity football team from Ledford High School was playing at Salisbury High School when a shooting occurred off campus near the school.

Donna Stafford said the shooting forced the cancellation of the game and the players and staff moved off the field into the adjacent high school building.

The entire Ledford group is safe and uninjured and boarded buses to return home.
