Man arrested for Mebane armed robbery after police chase

MEBANE, N.C. – Police have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery that took place at Tanger Outlets Friday afternoon.

Curt Camiron Vanderhorst, 19, of Greenville, NC, was charged with armed robbery and is held in the Alamance County jail under a $75,000 bond, according to jail records.

The victim of the robbery told officers that two Hispanic males got out a silver Porsche and grabbed a backpack from the victim’s vehicle.

Police said there was a struggle and a handgun was displayed.

No injuries were reported.

After the struggle, the two suspects fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

Mebane PD notified other agencies of an armed robbery. A description of the vehicle the suspect was driving was broadcast by radio, according to authorities.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that a deputy spotted a car matching the description heading east on Highway 70 in Efland.

Orange County deputies and the Highway Patrol assisted Mebane PD in the pursuit until the suspect’s vehicle crashed on Highway 70, just west of St. Mary’s Road.

There is no word on the other suspect.

Vanderhorst has his first appearance in court on Monday.

The investigation is on-going.
