Drowning victim in Rowan Co. lake identified

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Crews recovered a man’s body from a Rowan County lake Friday morning.

The 49-year-old Salisbury man had been swimming in High Rock Lake.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was called to 435 River Country Rd. in Salisbury at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday night to investigate a possible drowning.

Family members of the victim reported that the missing swimmer had gone into the water for a swim, and had swam out about 50 yards from the bank when they heard him call out, as if in distress.  Family members stated they saw the victim go under, but he failed to resurface.  Family immediately made a call to 911 for help.

The body of the victim was recovered at about 7 a.m. Friday.

The victim has been identified as Ted Alexander Gardner of 1115 Arden Dr. in Salisbury.
