Man killed in 2-vehicle accident in Burlington; 2 others hospitalized

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Burlington on Tuesday evening.

Police, firefighters and EMS responded to 1000 block of South Church Street at 5:51 p.m. in reference to a motor vehicle accident.

According to police, 66-year-old Nancy Gilmore, of Burlington, was attempting to cross over South Church Street from Carolina Avenue to continue onto Willowbrook Drive. Gilmore had one passenger, Donald Horne, in the vehicle.

Police said Christina Anderson, 22, of Burlington, was traveling west on South Church Street and Gilmore failed to see her vehicle prior starting into the roadway off Carolina Avenue.

When the vehicles collided, Gilmore’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock wall on Willowbrook Drive.

All three people were transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center.

Horne, 79, of Burlington, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Anderson was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gilmore is in good condition at ARMC.

Gilmore was charged at ARMC with failing to see before starting into the roadway and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, police said.
