Devon Thomas Lepsch

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A 22-year-old was arrested after someone noticed the kayaks he was selling on Craigslist resembled those stolen from a local business.

Devon Thomas Lepsch was charged with one felony count each of larceny and attempt to obtain property by false pretense.

On Aug. 11, an employee with the Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company in Saxapahaw reported that four kayaks had been stolen from the business sometime during the evening of Aug. 10.

Then, on Aug. 12, someone noticed an advertisement on Craigslist that listed four kayaks resembling those stolen from the business and called in a tip to investigators.

Detectives contacted the Craigslist seller and set up a meeting to buy the kayaks.

When they arrived at the seller’s home, they discovered that the kayaks were, in fact, the ones stolen from the Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company.

Lepsch was placed in the Alamance County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
