Jason Myers on a streak at Bowman Gray
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The 999th race event at Bowman Gray Stadium featured twin 25-lap races for the modified division. Jason Myers started on the pole for race 1 and led every lap to win his 6th race of the year just ahead of his brother Burt who made a last lap attempt at a pass around the outside but couldn’t make the move stick.
In the second race, Lee Jeffreys started on the pole thanks to the Madhouse Scramble. He was able to stay out front the entire race, winning for the first time since 2011.
Branch, Neal win; Stoltz passes the field
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Sportsman Division at Bowman Gray stadium ran twin 20-lap races in the 999th show at the legendary stadium. Taylor Branch and Tommy Neal won the two races but a big pileup in the 2nd race and Derek Stoltz driving from the back to 3rd in the second race were the real show.
A multi-car wreck on the front stretch just after finishing lap one was triggered when the 71 and 51 cars or D.J Moore and Rob Knabel wrecked and 8 or 9 more cars pile in.
After the restart Derek Stoltz battled his way past John Holloman IV but a few laps later had a right rear tire failure that may have been caused by that pass. Stoltz’ crew replaced the tire and the 02 car put on a clinic, driving from the rear of the field up to 3rd in the remaining laps.
Street Stock, Stadium Stock highlights
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Brian Wall picked up his third Street Stock win of the season and A.J. Sanders and P-David “P-Nut” Vernon won the 2 Stadium Stock races. Wall was able to hold off Taylor Robbins who was very strong on a couple of restarts. Austin Edwards and Blake Shupe finished 2nd and 3rd in the Street Stock Race.
