One dead, one injured in shooting reported at Winston-Salem home

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One man is dead and another injured after a shooting reported at a Winston-Salem home early Sunday morning.

Authorities said police found 22-year-old Kendrick Smith dead in front of a home at 1017 E. Devonshire St. after being called at about 4:15 a.m.

Police were called to the home in reference to a noise complaint. Officers arrived to find a large crowd at the home, according to police.

As officers approached the home, police said they heard gunfire and the large crowd started to frantically free the scene.

Smith was found dead in front of the home and 30-year-old Wayne Warren III was found with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Warren was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing and specific details about the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been released.

This is Winston-Salem’s ninth homicide this year, compared to the same number this time last year.
