GREENSBORO, N.C. — An argument between best friends ended with one man dead and the other in prison.
Gary Dennis Burgess, 52, of 2103 McConnell Road in Greensboro pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in Guilford County Superior Court for the 2012 death of John Kenneth Chrisp, 55, of 319 Gant St. in Greensboro.
Judge Lindsay Davis sentenced Burgess to more than seven years and up to 10 years in prison.
“I just want to apologize to his family, but they’re not here,” Burgess said. “We were best friends. He’s like a brother to me. We were drinking, and I’m truly sorry for what happened.”
