Community in Reidsville gathers to pray for funeral home owner shot by son

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A community in Reidsville gathered on Saturday to pray for a funeral home owner who was recently shot and injured by his son.

Members of the First Christian Church Reidsville Disciples of Christ met on Saturday to pray for 76-year-old James Johnson who was shot Friday morning.

The shooting was reported at about 9:20 a.m. at the Johnson and Son Funeral Home at 115 Holderby St. in Reidsville. There is no word on a possible motive.

Garcia Johnson allegedly shot 76-year-old James Johnson while inside the funeral home. After the shooting, Garcia Johnson allegedly left the scene. He was arrested after turning himself in later that day.

James Johnson is out of surgery and was listed in stable condition as of Friday evening. He owns the funeral home.

The suspect was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He jailed under a $1 million bond and has court planned for August 12.
