ARCHDALE, N.C. — The 12-year-old Archdale girl who was attacked by a shark last month has returned home after recovering in the hospital.

Kiersten Yow returned home on Friday, according to a Facebook page that was set up by the family.

Yow lost part of her arm in a shark attack off Oak Island about six weeks ago. She left Levine Children’s Hospital after being treated there for about two weeks.

Yow was one of two people attacked by a shark at the same Brunswick County beach on June 14.

Yow was initially taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington and later transferred to N.C. Children’s Hospital at UNC and finally Levine Children’s Hospital.

She lost a portion of her left arm below the elbow and suffered injuries to her left leg, but is now walking.
