Police charge man with death by motor vehicle in Greensboro accident

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police have filed misdemeanor death by motor vehicle charges against a Greensboro man who hit an 81-year-old pedestrian on July 13.

Phuong Y, 30, was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision.

He was driving a 2001 Honda Accord southbound along Summit Avenue near East Wendover Avenue at about 10:20 a.m. when he hit the victim, according to police.

The victim, Yom, was taken to Moses Cone hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died from his injuries on July 16.

Y is being held under a $25,000 bond at the Guilford County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
