GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A high-speed chase ended in a crash in Greensboro on Wednesday evening.

The chase started at 7:50 p.m. at the intersection of Hertford and South Aycock streets when police say Sergio Valenta Calloway, 30, of Hamlet, refused to pull over for suspected reckless driving.

Investigators say he took off, going more than 90 mph during the chase, and was traveling at about 50 mph when his white Chevrolet Cobalt crashed into a blue Chevrolet Impala at westbound Interstate 40/Wendover Avenue exit.

Investigators believed he was trying to avoid an officer with stop sticks on I-40 when he exited at Wendover Avenue crashing into the Impala. Police say he ran into the woods, throwing heroin out of his pockets, before being caught.

Calloway and the driver and passenger of the Impala sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, police said.

Calloway, who is facing multiple charges, is a convicted felon having most recently served nearly seven years for manslaughter.
